Out of the box, Microsoft 365 is set up for convenience, not for a regulated professional practice. We lock down sign-ins, sharing settings, admin accounts and backups so a single clicked link doesn’t turn into a data breach.
Where most Microsoft 365 setups fall short
Most account takeovers we see in small and mid-sized businesses don’t involve Hollywood hacking — an employee gets tricked into approving a sign-in prompt, and because the tenant’s defaults were never hardened, the attacker quietly sets up inbox forwarding rules and reads months of sensitive emails.
What we lock down
- Strong Multi-Factor Authentication & Passkeys: Blocking legacy authentication and moving away from easily tricked SMS codes.
- Conditional Access: Blocking sign-ins from unexpected countries or unmanaged devices.
- Admin account separation: Ensuring nobody reads daily email or browses the web logged in as a Global Administrator.
- External forwarding & SharePoint rules: Stopping automatic external email forwarding (a classic invoice-fraud trick) and tightening “anyone with the link” sharing.
- AI & Copilot readiness: Ensuring internal SharePoint permissions are clean before you switch on Microsoft Copilot with our sister team AlphaOps.
Common questions
Doesn’t Microsoft 365 back up our emails and SharePoint automatically?
Microsoft provides resilience and a recycle bin, not a long-term independent backup. If an account is compromised or files are purged after the retention window, an independent cloud-to-cloud backup is what gets your data back.
